The article covers the peculiarities of Russian compound terms in connection with the problems of creating explanatory and translating terminological dictionaries, including automatic translator. Based on the analysis of internal symmetry is determined that semantization of compound terms is not defined by metonymy and metaphor, like idioms and separate lexical units, but proceeding from the requirements of systemic hierarchy of the given science.
