The article is dedicated to the problem of the narrative structure of the Leo Tolstoy’s prose of the period of the 1870-s. The author clarifies the set of the tools which make up the narrative texture. The author also attends the problem of the ambivalent and complicated attitude of Tolstoy towards the main character of the novel.
