The biographies of the writers are playing the important role in the literature of the beginning of the 21th century and have become a specific scientific and artistic phenomenon. The author’s conception is based on the hypothesis that in a writer’s artistic system there is a dominant device that can be found on all levels of the text. This device is closely related to the artist’s personality and biography. The author relies on his own experience of writing books on Pushkin, Blok and Vysotsky and his articles about prosaists and poets.

Keywords: poetics, biography, device, personality.
